Oh hi!
I’m VAY-THEE KA (I know, most people get it wrong the first time but that’s ok—now you know).
I grew up in Dehradun, a city surrounded by mountains in North India, and my life took a rather adventurous turn when I moved to Toronto in the fall of 2021. Yes, I call myself an ad girlie now but it took me a long time to fall in love with advertising. You know, I was told advertising is all about culture, which it is for sure, but it’s more about YOU and your experiences. My mentors showed me that coming from a different culture is an advantage, not a weakness. And the day I internalized that, was the day I started loving advertising.
If you’d like to get a sneak peek into my (unfiltered) experiences as an Immigrant in Advertising, head to the next page. But if not, I’d just like to leave you with something my ECD told me, something I’m trying very hard to live by—Don’t be afraid of being WRONG.
